Project Title: Field Testing and Deployment of Harsh Environment Sensor Monitoring Platform

Required EE Area(s) of Expertise: Software/Firmware/Telemetry and Hardware (microcontroller) design.

Brief Project Description: This project builds on efforts started by previous Capstone Teams. The goal of this project is to take a hardware and software platform based on the ESP32 and do field testing and upgrades based on real-world experience. The platform will need to gather data from different sensor technologies such as temperature strain gauges, sheer gauges, voltage, flow rates and load sensors. This platform will then send data collected to the cloud via Wi-Fi, Cellular or Satellite. The module must be able to run in an environment where power is available as well as run on battery or potentially solar. The team will use Eagle CAD to perform updates to a SMD PCB and build new revisions. The team will also use Visual Studio Code and Platform IO to create new versions of the firmware based on identified needs. The end goal of this project will be to deploying a hardware and software solution for: 1. Monitoring of infrastructure such as bridges or public utilities 2. Marine/Vessel Monitoring

Major system products expected from this project: MicroController (ESP32), Sensor Conditioning, Power Supply and Management (wire/battery/solar), telemetry – Wi-Fi, cellular, satellite, cloud data ingress, mobile app configuration.

Parts of the project that “Engineering Design” is expected (e.g., mathematical calculations and/or verification simulations): “Engineering Design” is expected: Perform PCB design and construction. Analyze and tune analog and digital sensor performance. Signal analysis and conditioning in firmware.

The level of support (Time: technical guidance, materials, computing, financial, etc.) for the project. If no financial support will be provided, please offer an estimate of the Materials Cost: Weekly scheduled meetings. Additional assistance as needed. Training and support using Eagle CAD for PCB development. Training and support using Visual Studio Code for firmware development. Training and support on NuvIoT, Software Logistics, IoT development platform. All Hardware and Software for both training and development will be suplied by the industry sponsor
